    Gordon Brown...

The jury is still out. Iknow little of him other than as Chancellor. I did however once write to Gordon Brown when I was first seperated from my son and he was first a father. Unfortunately I addressed it to the Deputy Prime Minister, so I suppose it never got any Further....But anyone has got to be better than Tony "Bleuh" Blair

    Friendship..

And let there be no purpose to friendship, save the deepening of the Spirit and let your best be for your friend. Seek him not always with hours to kill, seek him with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need but not your emptiness.

If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know it's flood, also.

    Thought for the day

The Australian Aborigines invented the boomerang so they could eat the dog. Who needs a dog if the stick comes back on it's own?

There is no such thing as Co-incidence.

Last friday whilst on the riverside with Jack and myself, my friend Harvey lost his bag. Shock.Horror.
This may seem quite a minor event, however, as a Buddhist Harvey had in his bag both an Oma-mori Gohonzon* and his book and beads. Keys, an i-pod shuffle and various books and sundry hand-products, all that a modern man keeps in his big gay bag in fact, completed the contents.

Imagine my surprise on Saturday, when having visited both a charity shop and The Slug and Lettuce, on the off-chance that they may have been found, my phone rings and a lovely woman says that she has found said bag and that my number was inside. We arranged to meet 100 yards from where I was and it turned out that she recognised the significance of the contents because her brother was a Buddhist too. Having thanked the lady and her Partner and paid a reward of £5 to their boy kai, who had retrieved the bag whilst regaining an errant frisbee, I remarked that perhaps the woman would pay a little more attention to her brother in future. And then we were gone.

    * Gohonzon - Object of Worship. A mandala containing both the Mystic Law of the Lotus Sutra and it's Guardians. Revered by Buddhists and a focus for chanting, meditations and introspection.

    Carpe Diem.

The hand that writes, writes and having writ moves on. and you can change not a jot of it, not for all your tears and prayers.

    Charles II Farthing 1679.

On saturday May the third, Jack and I found a Charles the 2nd farthing on the Riverside at Richmond. This coin dated 1679 was the first english "copper" and the first to bear the image of Brittannia. It was at this time that John Saunders began The Richmond Riverside, which was finished after his death, by his wife the former Ann Stott.

    The Dragon Arum.

This smelly plant is growing in my friends garden and smells of rotting flesh. The spathe is 12 in long. the coin is a fifty pence piece for reference.

    Is Buddhism atheistic?

For twice ten thousand years, you have raised your Gods and still you are not happy. could it perhaps be true that the gods are not the source of your peace potential. Because Buddhism does not see "god" as a source of salvation, does not preclude their existence. They are quite simply un-important on the subject of the extinction of suffering. The extinction of suffering lies within us all. Forget god Save Yourself.

    I am Visadah..

    I am the Depressed Bodhisattva.

    Thus I heard.
All Dharma's* are inherently empty and utterly without distinction.

    *  Dharma  - Thing, formation, idea, foundation, rule or law.

Joy is in the ear that hears,

not in the mouth that speaks.

Dispell the illusion, reveal the true enemy......

It is one thing for some-one to claim to be Buddhist, it is simething completely other, to actually walk the Greater Path. As Morpheus says in The Matrix "there is a difference between kowing The Path and walking The Path." If a man who claims to be honest is caught out in a lie, it is obvious he is not an Honest Man. If a woman claims to be a Buddhist Nun and yet steals and lies and lays down with the Monks, it should be obvious this is not the behaviour of a Buddha. "When one is deluded one is called a human being, when one is Enlightened* one is called Buddha." Nichiren.

    * Enlightenment - To see things just as they are, having dispelled the three poisons of Lust, Aversion and Ignorance - frequently misinterpreted as greed, anger and stupidity.
